Raise your fists!

Raise your fists and your voices high

Let the flag of revolution fly

Fear not the forces that aim to sway

Make the stand and take the day

For in hearts and minds this battle’s won

No matter rain, no matter sun

We fight this war with liberty’s guns:

With marching feet and seditious tongues

With body and soul and with spirits ablaze

We seek the wicked system razed

As we rattle the towers and shake the halls

Tyrants will tremble under collapsing walls

Rulers will rage and rant and rail

Against the burgeoning tide to no avail

We are the wrathful storm unleashed

We are the righteous sword unsheathed

We are the nightmare from which they cower

We are the people, we are the power.

United we stand, united we win

Hand in hand with kith and kin

As a new day dawns with the rising sun

Long live the revolution!

We have just begun.

Wake up! Wise up! Rise up!

The American dream is dead. It has been murdered, set on fire, thrown into a pit and buried under the bodies of its believers. We are left with the American nightmare, a zombified, bastardized, one-sided, mind controlled version of what the powers-that-be would have us believe is democracy. How can we believe in a government that would tell outright lies to the public to start a war? How are we supposed to have faith in a system that places profit before the well being of it’s citizens? We face more of a threat from our own country than from foreign terrorists. Domestic terrorism, perpetrated by the state and it’s cohorts in commerce, is the order of the day. It is time for revolution.

The people of America and, indeed, the people of the world, will no longer sit idly by while their lives are destroyed. No longer will we acquiesce to the whims of corporate greed. No longer will we tolerate the inequality, the injustice, and the idiocy of a system that rapes entire populations, strip-mines whole continents and pollutes the planet that we all call home for the sake of a dollar. It is time for revolution. It is time for action. It is time that the status quo be dissolved.

Wake up, wise up, rise up! It is time that the populace take back what is ours: our power. It belongs to us. It is only on loan to the presidents and premiers and CEO’s of this world. They have abused the privilege and now must be sent to their rooms without supper like spoiled children. It is time to wake up and realize that we, as a people, ARE the power. If we stand united, there is no corporation or despotic regime that cannot be made to beg for forgiveness. We are The People, we are the power, we are the creators of our own destinies. Now is the time, here is the place. The revolution has just begun.

Declaration of the Occupation of New York City

If anyone has not  seen the OWS declaration (I can’t imagine that anyone hasn’t), here it is:

As we gather together in solidarity to express a feeling of mass injustice, we must not lose sight of what brought us together. We write so that all people who feel wronged by the corporate forces of the world can know that we are your allies.

As one people, united, we acknowledge the reality: that the future of the human race requires the cooperation of its members; that our system must protect our rights, and upon corruption of that system, it is up to the individuals to protect their own rights, and those of their neighbors; that a democratic government derives its just power from the people, but corporations do not seek consent to extract wealth from the people and the Earth; and that no true democracy is attainable when the process is determined by economic power. We come to you at a time when corporations, which place profit over people, self-interest over justice, and oppression over equality, run our governments. We have peaceably assembled here, as is our right, to let these facts be known.

They have taken our houses through an illegal foreclosure process, despite not having the original mortgage.
They have taken bailouts from taxpayers with impunity, and continue to give Executives exorbitant bonuses.
They have perpetuated inequality and discrimination in the workplace based on age, the color of one’s skin, sex, gender identity and sexual orientation.
They have poisoned the food supply through negligence, and undermined the farming system through monopolization.
They have profited off of the torture, confinement, and cruel treatment of countless animals, and actively hide these practices.
They have continuously sought to strip employees of the right to negotiate for better pay and safer working conditions.
They have held students hostage with tens of thousands of dollars of debt on education, which is itself a human right.
They have consistently outsourced labor and used that outsourcing as leverage to cut workers’ healthcare and pay.
They have influenced the courts to achieve the same rights as people, with none of the culpability or responsibility.
They have spent millions of dollars on legal teams that look for ways to get them out of contracts in regards to health insurance.
They have sold our privacy as a commodity.
They have used the military and police force to prevent freedom of the press. They have deliberately declined to recall faulty products endangering lives in pursuit of profit.
They determine economic policy, despite the catastrophic failures their policies have produced and continue to produce.
They have donated large sums of money to politicians, who are responsible for regulating them.
They continue to block alternate forms of energy to keep us dependent on oil.
They continue to block generic forms of medicine that could save people’s lives or provide relief in order to protect investments that have already turned a substantial profit.
They have purposely covered up oil spills, accidents, faulty bookkeeping, and inactive ingredients in pursuit of profit.
They purposefully keep people misinformed and fearful through their control of the media.
They have accepted private contracts to murder prisoners even when presented with serious doubts about their guilt.
They have perpetuated colonialism at home and abroad. They have participated in the torture and murder of innocent civilians overseas.
They continue to create weapons of mass destruction in order to receive government contracts. *

To the people of the world,

We, the New York City General Assembly occupying Wall Street in Liberty Square, urge you to assert your power.

Exercise your right to peaceably assemble; occupy public space; create a process to address the problems we face, and generate solutions accessible to everyone.

To all communities that take action and form groups in the spirit of direct democracy, we offer support, documentation, and all of the resources at our disposal.

Join us and make your voices heard!

*These grievances are not all-inclusive.

Something else from OWS to savor:

OWS Statement

of Demands

*We DECLINE to take the fall for corporate greed. As the imminent failure of a system is clearly upon us WE THE PEOPLE will not continue to suffer as corporations and institutions enjoy epic gains of profit, federal forgiveness and support that this country in turn denies to the very citizens who make it great. This includes industries of FINANCE, HEALTH CARE, EDUCATION/HIGHER EDUCATION, GOVERNMENT, HOUSING, SOCIAL WORK and LOBBYISTS.

*We DEMAND that the UNITED STATES GOVERNMENT take an ACTIVE role in disassociating itself from the interests of private Wall Street and honor its position as an agent of the PEOPLE. WE THE PEOPLE DEMAND BOLD ACTION FROM OUR ELECTED OFFICIALS TO STOP THE CIPHONING OF MONEY INTO THE TOP 5%. We understand this will impact their personal portfolios and invite them to realign their values with those of the American people. (Community, strength, innovation, grit, vision…)

*We OCCUPY WALL STREET and challenge the largest powers of this nation: our military and police forces, the judicial system, corporate/federal employees on every level and academic institutions to IMMEDIATELY STOP practices across-the-board that employ prejudice against people’s racial/ethnic, social and sexual identity. Unlearning the values that oppress one another is the ONLY way to HEAL this ailing nation. How sick are the hearts of the people who can look down with champagne and laugh as we ask to be given a chance to thrive?

*We OCCUPY WALL STREET as people who are challenging our state of suffering. We DEMAND that all citizens aligning themselves with our mission realize this is greater than returning this country to a nostalgic place of ‘betterness’. THIS IS ABOUT REPAIRING, RENEWING AND REVIVING THIS NATION. It is hard work and it is overdue.

We are Wall Street’s Alarm Clock:  WAKE UP.

Wall Street: WE KEEP YOU ALIVE! Who built you brick by brick? Who writes the news that protects your assets? Who cleans your toilets? Who follows your orders? Who fills your (mounting) prescriptions? Who babysits for you? Who cooks for you? Who greets you in the morning? Who checks you in? Who cuts your hair? Who tailors your suits? Who serves your champagne? Who designs your web sites? Who writes the books you read on vacation? Who delivers them to your house? Who sells you your homes? Who shines your shoes? Who counts your money? Who paints your house? Who pours your coffee in the morning? WE THE PEOPLE.

And it is clear, Wall Street, you could give a damn.
